Sunderland Point is a small village on the marshes at the mouth of the River Lune and Morecambe Bay. Sadly it was once used as a port for slave ships but that is long in its past. Today it is lovely little place to visit.
If you visit Sunderland Point in your car be careful! The road is covered by water at high tide and you could find your vehicle stranded until the water retreats. However, we recommend leaving your car in Overton and walking the route taking in the beautiful vista over Morecambe Bay. Just consult the tide timetable first!
The village is still made up of late 17th century and Georgian houses looking out over the bay. You can see the defences at their doors to protect them from the frequent floods that beset the village.
The village was featured in a TV series called The Ruby in the Smoke which starred Julie Waters and Billie Piper.
